Yee-Haw! Those Darlins Comin' to Town

The idea of giving all band members the same last name may be a cliché (the Ramones, the Donnas), but there’s a lot about Nashville trio Those Darlins that’s not.

Nikki Darlin, Kelley Darlin and Jess Darlin attract attention by sporting a teensy-skirt-or-shorts-and-cowboy-boots look and playing '50s-style rockabilly and traditional county with a punk flair and a risqué attitude that’s strictly modern.

Rockabilly flavor infuses “Red Light Love” and “Hung Up on Me,” while “Wild One” and “The Whole Damn Thing” have a backwoods country-folk feel, with campfire-singalong vocals. The group has just released their self-titled debut album featuring the above- mentioned songs, as well as ‘Keep My Skillet Good and Greasy,” “DUI or DIE” and “Snaggle Tooth Mama.”

The very titles are a clear indication that these gals view country with irreverence and more than a touch of irony, despite living within commuting distance of Music Row. The group plays the Beachland Tavern at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, with local acoustic performer Alan Madej and Akron garage-rockers the Real Dogs. Tickets are $7. —Anastasia Pantsios
