Crazy Priest Fan Update

Well, dreams came true Tuesday for Jim Bartek, the Cleveland Judas Priest fan we wrote about a few weeks ago who had recently completed a year of listening to the latest Priest album Nostradamus every single day — despite its nearly two-hour length, despite the naysayers who thought it was pretentious and weak, despite a job and fishing trips and the ridicule of friends.

After being featured on Bill Peters’ long-running Metal on Metal show on WJCU-FM88.7 several times and getting some write-ups for completing this feat, some anonymous person mailed him a third-row ticket for the Priest show at Time Warner Cable Amphitheater. “The only thing that would make it more perfect is if I got to meet them,” he told us.

According to blabbermouth, the first news outlet to write about Bartek’s marathon, Priest manager Jayne Andrews arranged for him to meet all the members of the band prior to the show, get his copy of Nostradamus signed and have his picture taken with them. They gave him a scoop: They plan to do a live performance of the entire much-maligned Nostradamus album. At least, they know they’ll have one fan in the audience!

Rejuventated, Bartek says he intends to keep listening to the album daily. —Anastasia Pantsios
