WTF of the Day: Elton John Plays on Alice in Chains CD

Posted By on Tue, Aug 11, 2009 at 12:56 PM

We're not sure what the hell Elton John is doing on the reunited Alice in Chains' upcoming album, but he's on there.

John will play piano on Black Gives Way to Blue's title track, a tribute to the band's late singer Layne Staley, who died in 2002 of a heroin-and-cocaine cocktail. (How much you wanna bet 95 percent of the songs on the album are going to be referred to as "tributes" by surviving band members?)

The album comes out on September 29, and given how I feel about anything Elton recorded after 1977 and everything Alice in Chains ever recorded (hint: yawn), I can tell you I probably won't hear this song till sometime in 2010. —Michael Gallucci
