With fall on the horizon, the Rock Hall’s Summer Sessions concert series comes to a close tonight with a pair of local bands who are starting to get recognition beyond Northeast Ohio.

Youngstown-based Gil Mantera’s Party Dream began a decade ago as a sort of joke band, but have since diversified into a “real” band, with frontman Ultimate Donny and synth player/programmer Gil Mantera joined by Pittsburgh-based drummer A.E. Paterra, who also produced the band’s recent album Dreamscape.

But their party-rocking synth pop still rides on the back of their uninhibited showmanship. They should be nicely complemented by Cleveland’s This Is a Shakedown!, a British-style dance-pop quartet that mixes electronic and rock elements, as demonstrated on their album Love Kills, released on local label Reversed Image Unlimited at the beginning of the summer.

The free show takes place from 6-9 p.m. on the plaza in front of the Rock Hall. If it rains (there’s a chance of thunderstorms this evening), it takes place inside on the lobby stage. —Anastasia Pantsios
