What to Do Tonight: Johnny Fiasco

Posted By on Fri, Dec 11, 2009 at 9:12 AM

Born and raised in Chicago, Johnny Fiasco began playing guitar and DJing at house parties thrown by his high-school friends in the mid-’80s. He eventually graduated to DJ residencies at now-legendary clubs like Smart Bar, the Shelter and Red Dog. Fiasco’s 1991 remix of DJ Chunkabud’s “Zig Zag” put him on the map, garnering heavy club rotation across the nation. Since that release, it’s hard to gauge where Fiasco has made a bigger impression — behind the turntables or in the studio. When he’s in the DJ booth, he shows love to practically every house niche imaginable — from vocal to techy to acid and beyond. When he’s in the studio, he flaunts his Latin roots but never forgets that it was the acidic oscillations of Roland’s TB-303 synthesizer that put a big fat “Property of Chicago” stamp on house music back in his salad days. Expect to hear all of these styles and more when he steps behind the decks at Touch Supper Club (2710 Lorain Ave., 216.631.5200,, with support from 7up, Elysium and Evan Evolution.Tickets: $10. — Steve Boughton
