Money Where Your Mouth Is: The Strange Familiar

Posted By on Tue, Dec 22, 2009 at 10:00 AM

Here's where we let a band speak for itself to plug a show, ’cuz we’re busting our butt, trying to get out of here early to hit the barbershop so we look good for the Christmas party. Today we have the Strange Familiar, which grew out of longtime local favorites Jaded Era. Click here to hear the group’s new Christmas song, ‘The Only Gift I Need.” —D.X. Ferris

Band: The Strange Familiar

Website: thestrangefamiliar.com or myspace.com/thestrangefamiliar

Hometown: Akron (but now living in Los Angeles)

Sounds Like: “If the Fray were to go on a date with Leona Lewis at a Coldplay concert.”

Fun Fact: “Our first real gig at age 15 was opening up for Mushroomhead at a frat party. Ten years later our old band opened up for Bon Jovi at the Q Arena.”

Playing: Musica in Akron on Saturday

Why You Need to See Them: “Come out and support this worthy cause! Our goal is to raise money and awareness for Haven of Rest, a non-denominational Christian organization that has been helping the poor, hungry and homeless for over 66 years. We will be donating portions of ticket sales and merchandise, and will also be hosting a raffle with some cool prizes.” —Jeff Andrea, guitar
