What to Do Tonight: Resist

Posted By on Fri, Jan 15, 2010 at 12:00 PM

Blame it on the harsh, snow-clogged winters, or the decaying remains of the Rust Belt’s once thriving industry, but Cleveland has a knack for spawning metal and hardcore bands. Resist have been one of those dark and bludgeoning groups that calls the North Coast home for more than eight years. Following in the footsteps of Cleveland metalcore forefathers like Ringworm, Resist blur the lines between metal and hardcore punk. On their latest demo, chugging guitars and stampeding drums give way to rock grooves and crushing breakdowns, showing that these guys have influences that span the heavy-music spectrum. One listen reveals everything from bits of vintage New York hardcore to the crisp sounds of modern-day metalcore. It’s a sound that shows these guys are true fans of all things heavy. Lost Chapter, Heavyweight and Konipshun Phit open their show at Peabody’s (2045 E. 21st St., 216.776.9999,, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets: $6. — Matt Whelihan
