Taste the Testament… for a Couple Bucks Extra

Thrash and brood, brood and thrash ...
  • Thrash and brood, brood and thrash ...

Testament are opening Slayer and Megadeth's August 18 concert at Time Warner Cable Amphitheater, where both headliners will play classic albums from the 1990-91 period (which was the waning days of the golden age of thrash metal).

Testament recently played their first and best album, 1987’s The Legacy, on tour. But for this summer road show, they’ll break out some other dusty classics.

The band’s been on the road since the release of 2008’s well-received The Formation of Damnation, so to keep things fresh, they’re working up a new set that’ll touch on cult albums The Gathering and Demonic, in addition to some new tunes.

Testament were one of the top six thrash bands back in the day. They duked it out with Exodus for the no. 5 slot (behind Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax). Unlike the other five, they got heavier as the '90s went on.

So expect some brutal pit toxic-waltz shit in the pit.

If you can’t get enough of Testament and you have an extra $150 bones, the band is selling VIP tickets: General admission tix are $42, but for $192, very important tix include one general admission ticket, early entry, a meet & greet with Testament, an autograph session, an autographed 8x10 photo, an Affliction Testament shirt, a numbered tour poster, a music skin, a souvenir laminate, and set of official Testament guitar picks.

That’s a lot of money, but it’s a lot of swag. And if you’re a longtime fan of the band, chances are you own a couple copies of albums that you didn’t pay for. So it’s time to buck up, dude. —D.X. Ferris
