If you didn’t get laid after the Deftones show at House of Blues last night, it’s no one’s fault but your own. The sexy, panty-dropping sounds of the California band were enough to get hips grinding and heads nodding.

At one point I looked around and it seemed like the entire audience had that “awww shit, yeah” face.

Deftones started strong with the title track from their latest album, Diamond Eyes. The primal, seductive screams of frontman Chino Moreno were only part of the fun. The flashing searchlights added a surreal twist, in some cases blanking out Moreno’s svelte frame, making it seem like only a star-shaped object was onstage.

“Pins and Needles” got the crowd in the mood for a rousing set that spanned the band's career. Trading his high socks for skinnies, Moreno was in great form last night. His voice was solid, even when he tapped it for a sizable chunk of material from the demanding Adrenaline album.

Still, it was older songs like “Change” and “Shove It” that really got the audience moving. During “Passenger” it seemed like everyone was on the verge of getting truly rowdy, which they hopefully did when they got home. —Jara Anton
