10 Things Going on in Cleveland this Weekend (October 25-27)

Miles Davis is one of the great jazz trumpet players of all time. He's best known for 1959's Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz album ever. Later in his career, he experimented with rock and funk rhythms on albums such as Bitch's Brew, In a Silent Way, Tutu and Amandla. It's that period that the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra visits tonight in a program dubbed Cleveland Jazz Orchestra: Miles Goes Electric. The show starts at 8 at Kennedy's Theatre, and tickets are $25. The Harry Potter series might be over but the fantasy novels that launched the seven-part movie series are still as popular as ever. To capitalize on that popularity, former BBC television hosts Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have put together Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience — A Parody by Dan and Jeff, a show that squeezes the tomes into a 70-minute performance complete with costume changes and props. Clarkson and Turner will also encourage the audience to participate in a real-life game of Quidditch. The show has been touring since 2012 and played to a full house when it came through town earlier this year. It's back in Cleveland tonight at 7:30 at the Ohio Theatre to kick off a three-night stand. Tickets are $10 to $45. (Niesel)

Given that Ohio Burlesque's Bella Sin is of Hispanic heritage, it's not surprising she'd be into throwing a Dia De Los Muertos bash. Dubbed The Undead Burlesque Ball, tonight's show features headliner Red Rum, a Chicago-based burlesque dancer whose skull-like masks make her look like some kind of zombie sprung back to life. In total, some 12 entertainers will perform; the performances will run the gamut, from "scary to nerdy," as Sin puts it. In addition, fans are invited to bring "offerings" to the dead that they can leave at an alter. The Cleveland Kings and Girls, a local drag queen group, will put on a special Halloween-themed show, and DJ Nemesis will provide the beats. Cleveland Beer Week comes to an end tonight with Brewzilla, the big blowout event that takes place at the Galleria at Erieview from 6 to 10 p.m. More than 80 breweries will be on hand to offer up samplings of some of their most exotic craft beers. There will be a Belgian beer garden and a special area devoted to Ohio breweries. Fifty-dollar general admission tickets include 25 tasting tickets, a commemorative T-shirt and complimentary appetizers. Seventy-five dollar Brewer's Circle tickets come with a few extras, including access to the Brewer's Lounge where you'll find exclusive craft beers and a wider selection of food Always a good time. You’d be hard-pressed to find a Cleveland band better suited to playing a special Halloween rock concert than Dead Federation. Led by longtime punk and former Knifedance and Stepsister front man Tom Dark, Dead Federation evokes campy punk acts like the Cramps and the Misfits. That’s perfect because at tonight’s show at Old Haunts Tavern in Akron, each band must play two Misfits songs (or tracks by offshoots Samhain/Danzig). Creeper & His Pals, Reverend Morbid, Urban Pirates and Slitt & the Back Alley Abortionists round out the bill. The music starts at 8 p.m. and admission is free. (Niesel)

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's annual Music Masters series concludes tonight with a blowout tribute to the Rolling Stones, the band that's the subject of this year's event. The Rock Hall tends to add talent up to the last minute for the gala concerts that conclude the series after a week of programming, but this year's event so far includes artists such as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Chuck D and Soul Asylum's Dave Pirner. The E Street Band's Nils Lofgren leads the house band. Expect a mix of music and commentary over the course of the concert, which will likely push the three-hour mark. It takes place tonight at 7:30 at the State Theatre. Tickets are $30 to $80. (Niesel)

Bones, Bugs & Dead Animals, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History's annual Halloween party, celebrates the spooky holiday with food, drink and music. Abby Normal and the Detroit Lean will perform and fans who dress in costume can compete for great prizes. Admission includes two free drink tickets, and additional drink tickets will be available for purchase if two drinks ain't enough. Great Lakes Brewing Company is a sponsor so hopefully they'll provide some Nosferatu, their terrific strong ale that seems tailor-made for this kind of event. Every Sunday, the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern hosts a brunch and enlists a DJ to spin some tunes. In honor of Halloween, today's brunch has been christened Black Magic Brunch and features DJ Castle Spooktacular, who'll spin rockabilly, surf, punk and garage tunes with a ghoulish vibe. You can expect to hear some Misfits and probably some Cramps too. Anyone who shows up in costume will receive a "special gift." The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free but the food and drink will cost you. (Niesel)

If classic horror (The Birds) or gory porn-horror (Argento’s Dracula 3D) don’t quite wet your cinematic whistle, check out one of the greatest horror-comedies of all time this morning at the Capitol Theatre, where Cleveland Cinemas will screen Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein as part of its Sunday brunch series (and in honor of Halloween). In this screwball tale, Abbott and Costello are baggage handlers who get caught up in the world of Universal Monsters. They’re tasked with taking the remains of Dracula and Frankenstein to a monster museum and hijinks predictably ensue. (This will probably be better than watching four different versions of the “Who’s on First” sketch on YouTube, which I just did). Movie’s at 10 a.m. and tickets are only $5. (Allard)
