Pete George: The Rock Star of Comedy 
When: Thu., Dec. 29
A Cleveland native, comedian Pete George has come a long way since the days when he would open for a local magician. George, who got his start in show business as a lead guitarist in a Cleveland based ’80s rock group he says wanted to be like the band A Flock of Seagulls and called themselves A Peck of Peckers, has now played some 7500 shows over the course of a 20-year career. He’s also had roles in The Shawshank Redemption and The Majestic and has made appearances on Blood Relatives, Tabloid, Night Shift, Now That’s Comedy and several national commercials including Audi and nick@nite. He also has a television show about his life in development and has released the comedy CD, Comedy You Can Dance To. He performs at the Hard Rock Rocksino’s Club Velvet at 7 tonight and has shows scheduled through Saturday. Tickets are $35 to $40. (Courtesy Pete George)

Monsters vs. Grand Rapids Griffins

After a tough November during which the team lost more games than it won, the Cleveland Monsters got off to a hot start in December, winning five of the first six games it played. Tonight, it concludes a two-game homestand against the Grand Rapids Griffins. The two teams face off at 7 at the Q. As part of the club's 1-2-3 Fridays promotions, fans can purchase $1 sodas, $2 hot dogs and $3 beers. Theater, visual arts, dance and music groups will be on hand and there will be children’s activities, delicious food trucks, and two "bursting" firework shows. METRO shuttles will be available to help make getting around downtown easier. Downtown Admission buttons are $10 and are available online, at Acme Fresh Market and at participating FirstMerit Bank locations. Children under 10 are free. Looking for a kid friendly New Year’s Eve celebration? The Cleveland Museum of Natural History (CMNH) hosts its annual New Year’s at Noon event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. All day, guests can create their own party hats, noisemakers and take-home crafts. Twelve hours before midnight, countdown to noon with a dinosaur egg drop and find out what’s inside. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the museum’s galleries, Global Kitchen and visiting the animals in the Perkins Wildlife Center & Woods Garden. The event is free with museum admission. Additionally, catch a special New Year’s-themed show in the planetarium for an additional fee. General admission to CMNH is $15 for adults, $10 for children (ages 3 to 18) and seniors (ages 60 and over). CMNH members and children ages 2 and younger are always free. After becoming one of the winners in season six of American Idol, Melinda Doolittle quickly became a national sensation that critics have called "one of the most exciting and talented young vocal artists in America." Tonight at 9 at Severance Hall, she joined the Cleveland Pops Orchestra for its 21st annual New Year's Eve concert. After the concert, there will be dancing as a pop and a rock band will perform in two different locations in Severance Hall. He regularly plays a New Year's Eve show at Nighttown and this year he'll even perform at the Cleveland Heights club on New Year's Day for a special brunch.
