3 Channels

Saturday, August 11, at Touch Supper Club.

Polish techno? Is that like Albanian love poetry? Who knew it even existed -- well, aside from the excellent output of Jacek Sienkiewicz? And how do they incorporate those wacky polka grooves into techno's 4/4 rigidity?

All right, let's ditch the lame comedy: 3 Channels ain't no joke.

Deeop (aka Grzegorz Demianczuk) and Ketiov (aka Wojciech Taranczuk) became resident DJs at Moscow's Mezzo Forte club in 2003. They helped put their country on the global techno map, booking such elite talent as John Tejada, Wighnomy Brothers, and Dub Taylor.

When they get behind the decks, Deeop and Ketiov favor minimal techno hotness by the likes of My My, Cobblestone Jazz, Marc Houle, Claude VonStroke, and Alex Under. 3 Channels, however, has been known to sneak in some Burial for the dubstep freaks.

As producers, these prolific Poles keep it deep, enigmatic, and grinding in a manner beloved by knowledgeable DJs like Triple R, Jeremy Caulfield, and Damian Lazarus. 3 Channels may not create peak-time fodder, but their tracks certainly help build to that ultimate climax most clubbers desire. In a terribly overcrowded field, 3 Channels have wedged their way into minimal techno's DNA, contributing mightily to its thriving underground existence in the young century. And they did it all without any accordions.
