50/50 Screening

n the 2011 film 50/50, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen star as Adam and Kyle, a couple of pals who have to deal with the consequences of cancer when Adam is diagnosed with a tumor in his spine. Loosely based on the real life experiences of screenwriter Will Reiser, the movie never settles for sentimentality and provides a good look at what it’s like for someone relatively young to go through chemotherapy and cope with a serious illness. The film screens tonight at 6 at the Lakewood Public Library and social worker Kathy Maxwell, who leads a young-adults-with-cancer group at the locally based Gatherhing Place, will lead a panel discussion after the screening.
