Re: “A Preview of the 2019-2020 Basketball Team Known as the Cleveland Cavaliers

Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Memphis, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, and Salt Lake City are not "Big" cities either. In fact. all of them have smaller metropolitan areas than Cleveland, and nobody wants to "get rid of the NBA" in those towns. The newly-spiffed-up "Field House" guarantees Cleveland's place in the NBA for at least fifteen more years, if not longer. The Cavs may stink for a long time to come, but you'd better get used to the odor.

I've always wondered why an NHL team can't succeed here. It probably could. Hockey is huge here. My wife's family has had players and coaches in it for three generations now. The real question is whether or not Cleveland is large enough and affluent enough to be among the handful of places with franchises in all four major sports.

Re: “A Preview of the 2019-2020 Basketball Team Known as the Cleveland Cavaliers

Please...please...get rid of NBA in Cleveland. It is NOT an NBA town, it won't attract free agents. It's not a knock on Cleveland, just a truth. It's not a warm weather town and it isn't a "Big" city. Today's NBA isn't like the 80's or even 90's. We aren't going to organically grow a team like teams used to do. The only reason we have a championship is because the home grown messiah came back. Even then, it wasn't easy to get players around him!
It may not be an NBA town, but we could certainly back an NHL team. The Baron's of the 70's were poorly run, so please don't use that example of why it wouldn't work. In Ohio, hockey is more prevalent in the North, even with the Blue Jackets in Columbus. Look at high school hockey, youth programs, Junior/Minor league teams. The NHL works in non "glam" cities because it is a different game/player mentality. Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Detroit....why not Cleveland!?!

Re: “Confessions of a Strip Club Bathroom Attendant

George was one of the most genuine, honest, caring people I ever had the pleasure of working with. Granted, I will have never have seen as much as George did, but I sure would love for another generation to experience the way the flats use to be. George treated everyone with respect and never had anything bad to say about anyone. He cared so much about all of us girls. We were lucky. Although, George would say he was the lucky one. I'll always have a soft place in my heart with the memories of George. I appreciate this article giving a small tid bit into the life of who George was.

I was a Bouncer back in the day and George always had a kind word for everyone. He was a sweet and classy guy and everyone loved him.

Re: “Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell on the Successes and Struggles of One of the Region's Oldest Suburbs

Blackwell is a piss poor mayor. Prepare for Black Flight. Not all Maple Heights residents live in poverty, but are subjected to it by those surrounding us. Stop whining about what needs to be fixed and fix it. I'm tired of seeing your mug with every publicity grab. Warrensville and Garfield face similar challenges. You don't see their mayors posing in front of closed buildings. get over yourself Blackwell.

Re: “Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell on the Successes and Struggles of One of the Region's Oldest Suburbs

The tone of this article is not good - as pointed out by other comments. Dropping point-of-sale inspections only sets up a repeat of the flipping that resulted in Slavic Village. Not a surprise, some of the same dirty players are involved. Why is Slavic Village Development Corporation working in another city, when their HUD funding through the Cleveland City Councilman Tony Brancatelli is FOR CLE - not Maple Heights. It is long past due, for the Attorney General to investigate Tony B and his Slavic Village CDC emails. He also chairs the Land Bank, which should NOT be witing out debt for the city of Maple Heights, which already struggles to fund services. Whose outstanding liens were let go under the former County Treasurer Jim Rokakis - and the now departed Cuyahoga County Fiscal Agent Dennis Kennedy? Finally, if a resident does not work and does not understand insurance and how to maintain a home - they SHOULD not own a home. Never fear -- CHN Partners is part of the CDC/Land Bank racket and they have restructured to absorb NHS - ran into the ground by Michael Cosgrove - disgraced former head of Cleveland's Community Development Department.

Unlike the days of yesteryear of Maple Heights, I think this is an exact representation of the Maple Heights of today.

Wahhh, i'mma report you when I disagree with your opinion... wahhh... and that therin lies the problem in itself. And it's no wonder....

"The most violent element in society is ignorance"

Our new maple heights denizens proves that statement in itself to be majority true.

Yep, here you go... your city now... show US what you do with your newly acquired territory, ole' wise ones... I'll watch as long as I can see...

Re: “The Worst of Cleveland: Blanket 15-Year Tax Abatements

I live in Canton....where they just adopted this abatement program. I disagree with the complaints that some have been stating...namely that longtime residents have seen their taxes go up and are thus feeling an economic pressure to move. You have to look at the big picture of Cleveland's decades long negative status. Is it better to have every single "hood" in Cleveland going down to rock bottom, dull dozer status? Or is it better to have those few "hoods" with the most potential come back with new middle class residents? I cannot agree that old urban cities should only be fit for subsidized folks or people with very limited incomes. You are basically saying Cleveland should be as poor as possible with the most challenged folks in the County living there as their default "hood".

Wow! Dindu Nuffins could have made his or her points with clarity, but instead resorts to shuck and jive language. It's sad how far we have fallen when we can't have a discussion without falling into such sad cliches. Hope Dindu and Jim Crow are enjoying their pas de deux.

Re: “Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell on the Successes and Struggles of One of the Region's Oldest Suburbs

The tiny, secret, racist "Mourning Maple Heights" group mentioned in the article is hardly representative of the denizens of Maple Heights, past and present. Check out the "You Know You're From Maple Heights If...." Facebook group if you want to see civic pride, past and PRESENT, which celebrates all the good things happening in our city today.

Budish raising values 7% means so little. It's just a way to grab more money, not a reflection of what you can sell the house for.

Re: “Early Feedback on Cleveland's New Micro-Mobility Rides

Saw three kids, all under the age of 10 or 12, hop on a single scooter and take off down the sidewalk at Tremont's Art and Cultural Festival and they're not the first children I have seen riding on one. And I have yet to see a single rider wearing a helmet. A little oversight would be good.
