Re: “Chow Chow at the Parkview is a Delicious Match Made in Detroit-Shoreway

I've been a fan of the parkview for a long time. However, the last couple of times I ordered a simple grilled cheese.... they were greasy and tasteless. I will go far for a decent grilled cheese on rye. Next time I'm in the hood I'll ask. Bonus points if there's a good thick tomato basil to go with. Tis the season.

Re: “20 Years in, Tremont's Fat Cats is as Good as Ever

I always remember the first time I ever experienced "jicama" was back when they first opened! From that point on I knew they'd be trendsetters! Wonderful article to read & CONGRATS to Fat Cats!!

Re: “20 Years in, Tremont's Fat Cats is as Good as Ever

My first visit to Fat Cats was in the 90s as well, not long after they opened. On that day, I had the best portabella mushroom sandwich I have ever had, even to this day. If I closed my eyes I would have sworn I was eating a prime steak. Deeeelish!

Re: “Marble Room's Service Has a Long Way to Go to Catch Up to Its Stunning Setting and Menu

Mr. Trattner failed to mention that this 1920s venue was, at one time, the largest bank lobby ever built on the planet. Apparently, management ignores this fact as well. Otherwise, the service would be as opulent and as dazzling as the space itself. Obviously, it isn't.

I'm just a poor Joe Schmo who cannot afford dinner there, but lunch on my 25th anniversary might have been in the cards next month. Not anymore.

As someone with alot of restaurant server experience, fine dining etc I will tell you the fish rots from the head down. And I know through the grapevine that the staff is treated poorly by management there. Happy employees treated with respect will result in happy guests. In EVERY business period!

Re: “Marble Room's Service Has a Long Way to Go to Catch Up to Its Stunning Setting and Menu

Some notes about random dishes, but nothing about the flavors, technique, or artistry of the kitchen.
Other than an egotistical note about a Rioja wine (a Grand Reserve for $65? Incredible buy that merits more information), nothing about the quality of the wine menu. And so much focus on service based on just one visit? A restaurant such as this, with a major investment in downtown Cleveland, merits a serious review, not just a lazy review based on a single visit by someone with limited knowledge of the subject. Oh why can we not have a better food culture in Cleveland?

Re: “Marble Room's Service Has a Long Way to Go to Catch Up to Its Stunning Setting and Menu

What is MOST disturbing to me is the turnaround once they knew who you were. I can only assume that were I to dine there, the service would never get any better because face it, I'm a nobody except to family and friends. It's a real shame because there are hundreds of chains out there where any one of us can be treated as such, and if I had a choice between a $60 and a $600 tab to endure that, guess which I'd choose. Your job as food critic warranted you sticking around for the full experience, but had it been me I would have been out at the 40 minute mark.

Beautiful review.
I do question why you chose to eat in a mausoleum. Seems disrespectful.

Re: “The Unlikely Marriage at the Heart of Phnom Penh Cambodian Restaurant

how about tell everyone that the couple is cheating on taxes? do you know that one's person unfinished food is another's dinner? I worked in this restaurant and would not recommend to eat there! MSG inside the food is a normal thing. Pork broth in soup #8 and #9 that they like to sell to muslims. Chicken broth in tofu soup and so on. It is too expensive (plus they collect your taxes you are paying). Bring your money somewhere else!

Bravo DT. Another great review. You always seem to know when to be critical and when to cheerlead!

Re: “Marble Room's Service Has a Long Way to Go to Catch Up to Its Stunning Setting and Menu

I now have 2cd thoughts about taking my wife there for her birthday. If you can't get great service at those prices and in fact are dealt atrocious service, we'll just go to a museum to see a beautiful setting.

How are you paid to be are writer? Do you even proofread? I would like to take your review seriously but you seem to be extremely pretentious.

Re: “Marble Room's Service Has a Long Way to Go to Catch Up to Its Stunning Setting and Menu

Glad we went elsewhere for our anniversary dinner. If you plan to drop big bucks, you expect a certain level of service. Most people who work for tips get this. I wonder if they hired their staff from Barrio?

"...The awkward flourish ended with a slice of Hudson Valley duck breast ($36) lodged between my ass and the chair, to be discovered an hour or so later as we departed."

How does THAT happen?

Re: “Messy Fun is the Name of the Game at Boiling Seafood

I've been a patron of this restaurant since it's humble beginning back in the fall of 2015. I've been there when they had hardly any customers; and I've been there when it's been packed to capacity and I had to leave and come back later (I had forgotten to call ahead and make a reservation). But I was ok with that because I was happy to see the business booming. Boiling Seafood and Crawfish is a nice restaurant with good food and a nice staff. The owner is Emily. (Unless that has changed) The manger is Vera. I love the Homemade Juicy and Baby Spice combo on my food, even though I know I will need a Zantac and I will reek of garlic. It's SO good though.
