Re: “Ontario Street Cafe, One of the Last Remaining Dive Bars Downtown, Has Closed

Let me tell y'all something. You can only feel so comfortable in a place that you can relate and your mind and soul is familiar with. My brother and I first hit the "OC" as we called it in 2008 when we first did floor work for our company in the Park Place building on Public Square. I instantly fell in love, because it not only reminded me of the dark and dumpy places my Father would frequent and took us along to munch on chips or cashews while he got his fix, but also the bars I'd be forced to go to with my best (and black) friend's Mom's hangouts on Kinsman or Union back in the day when I was 12-14 years old. I was groomed to love these kind of places. The ones that have an old jukebox that play old soulful tunes, Genesee on tap, 13 inch televisions in the corner that sometimes worked, and wonderful bartenders. God rest Angela- who passed right outside the bar after work and Kevin and Jennifer, etc...You all fit the atmosphere and essence of the OC. Now. Where can I get the best corn beef on rye with a Genny? Where? Tell me!

Re: “A Preview of the 2019-2020 Basketball Team Known as the Cleveland Cavaliers

Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Memphis, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, and Salt Lake City are not "Big" cities either. In fact. all of them have smaller metropolitan areas than Cleveland, and nobody wants to "get rid of the NBA" in those towns. The newly-spiffed-up "Field House" guarantees Cleveland's place in the NBA for at least fifteen more years, if not longer. The Cavs may stink for a long time to come, but you'd better get used to the odor.

I've always wondered why an NHL team can't succeed here. It probably could. Hockey is huge here. My wife's family has had players and coaches in it for three generations now. The real question is whether or not Cleveland is large enough and affluent enough to be among the handful of places with franchises in all four major sports.

Re: “Blaine Griffin, in Authoritarian Speech, Says Those Who Mess with City Council Will be 'Dealt With'

Articles like this really chap my ass. Who died and left Lynn Radcliffe as
owner of "her Union building"? I discussed this article briefly with Kevin
Kelley last night at the OBDC annual dinner and am in full agreement that removing an elected official from a public meeting [without just cause} is tantamount to equivocating the Democratic Party with Trump-ism {better known in 1939 Germany as Nazi-ism}. Whether or not you agree with the councilman's public positions you do not have the right to arbitrarily and capriciously trump the will of the people who voted him in. Tonight for homework Ms. Radcliffe needs to read Democracy for Dummies and submit to a pop quiz in the morning. I hereby demand a public apology to Cleveland City Council President Kevin Kelley and his re-admission to any further public meetings sponsored by the SEIU and the Ohio Democratic Party. We democrats are about to embark on the most important election ever in the history of this country and we already have one sour apple causing division. As Lincoln said "a house divided will not stand." Neither will the Democratic Party if antics like this keep occurring.

Oh another poignant look at race. How boring and simpleminded. Get out of the ghetto sometime and the fake bubble you exist within sometime. Its just another boring propaganda show on the same, tired and pathetic topic.

Re: “WKYC Hiring Frenzy Now Includes Emily Mayfield, Baker's Wife

Mike, that's because Sam is an elitist kid straight outta Northwestern (Medill School of Journalism, whose graduates are often referred to as Medilldoes). So it naturally follows that an actual journalist who's his fathers age would be labeled a dinosaur. It's what they do. Consider the source and shrug it off.

Almost 900 words in this review, and it's blown in the second one. It's Brooks'...not Brook's.
Her name Brooks, was not Gwendolyn Brook. Can't you clowns hire a couple of proofreaders?
And nine hundred words? The review needs editing...900 is more than most newspaper columnists get.

Blaine Griffin makes George Forbes (remember him?) look like a classy gentleman.
That takes some doing. Ask Carl Monday
He also makes a couple of other Georges look pretty good...
George Foreman...and George Jefferson.
As the Italians like to say..."Whatta gavone!"

Re: “A Preview of the 2019-2020 Basketball Team Known as the Cleveland Cavaliers

Please...please...get rid of NBA in Cleveland. It is NOT an NBA town, it won't attract free agents. It's not a knock on Cleveland, just a truth. It's not a warm weather town and it isn't a "Big" city. Today's NBA isn't like the 80's or even 90's. We aren't going to organically grow a team like teams used to do. The only reason we have a championship is because the home grown messiah came back. Even then, it wasn't easy to get players around him!
It may not be an NBA town, but we could certainly back an NHL team. The Baron's of the 70's were poorly run, so please don't use that example of why it wouldn't work. In Ohio, hockey is more prevalent in the North, even with the Blue Jackets in Columbus. Look at high school hockey, youth programs, Junior/Minor league teams. The NHL works in non "glam" cities because it is a different game/player mentality. Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Detroit....why not Cleveland!?!

Odd that Sam (who seems to love giving bj's to WKYC) basically just prints their press release but when 8 hires Tom Meyer (an actual journalist) he takes them to task calling Tom a dinosaur.

Re: “Blaine Griffin, in Authoritarian Speech, Says Those Who Mess with City Council Will be 'Dealt With'

Griffin -Peacemaker? Allard- why don't you revisit Griffin's twitter rants as head of Community Relations at the City of Cleveland? "Have heart! Don't hide in the shadows! Should #ourcle be burned down? Speak up." How about his "screw you" comments to immigration attorney - Richard Hermann. Glad for this reporting, but seriously don't sugar coat this guy.
