Re: “Known Sexual Assaulter Woody Allen Has Made Yet Another Movie, and It's Not Great

So we are not supposed to judge people guilty based on one allegation against them? Despite what you write, the allegations against Mr. Allen are definitely suspect.

Before assuming guilt, maybe you should read the report from the doctors at the Yale-New Haven hospital who examined Dylan Farrow for six months and concluded she had not been abused; or read interviews with her brother Moses, who states that their mother poisoned them against their father and that he never abused Dylan. Yes, I know, you can counter that with people close to them who DO believe Dylan's story. The point being, if people this close to the case can't agree on what actually happened, there's no way in the world for you to know. As a supposed journalist, it's bad form to pretend to know what you cannot know.

The only thing any of us know for certain is that Dylan is a victim; but whether she is a victim of abuse by her father, or the victim of mental abuse by a mother who planted this story in her head, none of us can ever know. Pretending you have the answers doesn't help anyone. And, if you always assume guilt in cases like this, you'll end up condemning guilty people along with the innocent. Maybe you can live with that. Personally, I would not be able to.

Re: “Known Sexual Assaulter Woody Allen Has Made Yet Another Movie, and It's Not Great

FIRE Sam Allard, If I was woody allen ,I would not just sue Scene Magazine But make Sam Allard Homeless! a Slanderous Title, whom, the editor should have edited out, let alone just a "I wanna make sure I get my Pussy from my wife tonight" Slanderous tone all article long, this is by FAR the WORST "article" ever published by Scene Magazine. FIRE Sam allard, he woud not know how to actually write I review if it sat on his face, clearly an objective he slanderous . I hope he and the failure of a n editor and the magazine get sued so hard the only thing they will be able to afford is that hot dog.

My wife saw the ad for this mess on TV and said "WTF is this movie ABOUT?"
Woody Allen just turned 82. Like Garrison Keillor, he has passed his sell-by date.

Dark humor? The film has an R rating for extreme violence. Torture with dentists drills. Brutal beatings. Graphic scenes of suicide. People thrown out of windows. Dialogue about "the (n-word)-torturing business."
How the hell can you call any of that humorous, Jeffy?

And no, I have not seen the film...nor do I plan to. The commercials were more than enough.
Do you really need to visit hell to know what goes on there?

Re: “Retro Tennis Flick 'Battle of the Sexes' is Emma Stone's Best Work Yet

It may take some scrounging around the dusty corners of a local book store, but finding a copy of "Court Hustler: An Autobiography by Bobby Riggs" will be worth the time.

The film is based on the French sci-fi comics series "Valrian and Laureline"....that was published from November 1967 to January 2010.

Historian Vadim Z. Rogovin's "1937: Stalin's Year of Terror" and "Stalin's Terror of 1937-1938: Political Genocide in the USSR" are chillingly outstanding books chronicling the cunning madman.

Monday's (February 20) headline on The Ringer -- for an analysis of elements (and obituary?) surrounding the movie -- says it all: 'A Cure for Wellness Was Way Too Weird to Succeed.

Re: “"The Founder" is Good, but Reveres McDonald's Monstrous Empire Builder

Mickey D's (only inner-city blacks used to call it that, and now they even call themselves that) was a model of efficiency and offered good, cheap product in the mid-Fifties. I was 8-9 years old then, and I remember other local chains in suburban Chicago that had carhops and lousy service and bad-tasting food.

One was called Richard's "Car-feteria"--and McDonald's destroyed them in a hurry. Another outfit called Henry's tried to copy Mickey D's, and they didn't last a decade.

McDonald's was family-friendly, too, at least in their pioneer days.. You filled out a form and they sent you a post card that was good for a free hamburger on your birthday. Our dog Lucky soon became our little sister...whose name was Lucy. Brand loyalties begin early. I still prefer the Arches to anybody else.

As for the classic Eastern diners, they were few and far between in Illinois, so we didn't miss them much when they went away.
