Re: “'The Art of Self-Defense' Satirizes Toxic Masculinity

Half our party of four left to go see other movies 30 minutes in. V-E-R-Y SLOOOOOOOW to develop any comedy or laughs. Mildly amusing, but wait for it on cable or streaming. disappointing.

Re: “Tolkien Biopic is Middle-Earth Reference Fest Void of Magic

Sam, are you even aware...are you cognizant of the fact...that "Bored of the Rings" is already the title of a well-known parody by Henry N. Beard and Douglas C. Kenney, who later founded National Lampoon? It was published in 1969 by Signet, for the Harvard Lampoon.

Re: “'High Life' Stands Apart From Other Sci-Fi Movies, But It's Not Easy to Sit Through

Why do you even bother to post a review of shit like this? Sounds like every copy of this cinematic abortion should be burned. And viewers do not have to "endure" the movie's scenes of rape and torture. Nobody's holding them at gunpoint. They are willing to PAY for the privilege. And even more willing to squander their TIME watching the shit that Hollywood puts out year after year. That's the sickest thing of all.

Re: “Emilio Estevez' 'The Public' is Closing the 43rd Cleveland International Film Festival

I sure like the premise and the actors. The plot may not reflect the actualities, maybe they didn't spend a few nights in a homeless shelter as part of their research. One thing homeless people do need is shower facilities, they themselves have no desire to smell bad. Another thing they need is a storage locker so they can walk around without lugging their luggage. I am curious to know more about the homeless shelter that Cleveland built on Detroit and W 85th St. That wold be a good topic for a local documentary film maker.

Oh my. Sam Allard reduced to movie reviews. I see the word documentary in there so that must make it a respectable assignment.

Re: “The Fresh Cheney Biopic Fails to Condemn

Both the conservative (me... Male) and liberal (my traditional, female wife) thought this was a very entertaining, well-done pic. Not sure if I loved it more for Bale's astonishing portrayal, the inventive movie making, or the sheer the audacity of Cheney's outlandish power grabs over the years (how empowered this film made me feel. What a country!)

Oh, yeah, and then there are those pesky little facts you Dems have been complaining about for years... You know.. mostly made up facts about Iraq, WMDs, etc.... that lead us to war.. Well, I'll admit that doesn't make Cheney look so good in the film. You DO have a valid point. I felt a little less enthused by the film's end and not ashamed to say it. See how I did that? (Bit complaining rusi film doesn't *condemn"??? It surely does)

Re: “The Fresh Cheney Biopic Fails to Condemn

What an amazing film! It will absolutely win a few awards. What you are calling "gimmicky" is what makes the storyline great. It breaks down the biographical boring style and opens it up for some dark comedy. It helps keep the audience engaged specially when you have to explain the complexities of American Poitics.

Re: “The Fresh Cheney Biopic Fails to Condemn

Sam - thanks for the hilariously angry review! CAN-NOT wait to see this movie if it's even partially as you describe it. I love Cheney and Bush - as any decent Americans should - and the thought you don't makes me love them even more. What a review!

Re: “Gaga, Cooper Wow in Remake of Classic Music Industry Love Story

This 4th remake the worst of the 4.
Venom killed it at the box office nearly doubling the opening weekend take at $80 million
compared to this $42.6 . No question which is the better film.

Re: “'The King' is a Love Letter to America and to Elvis

Unfortunately, director Jarecky forgot to take into account two or three very important variables when he searched for the elusive metaphor between Elvis and America. One is the title, which Presley abhorred. Another is that, as a subject of such a metaphor, the right person would have been Marlon Brando, who PURPOSEDLY and POMPOUSLY craved, his entire life, to leave a mark on society, but ended leaving half of that which Presley left as well as passing away three times as bad as Presley. In his case, not even his family amongst all the people he interacted with, had any thing good to say about him, as a person. Finally, the Director would have profited from having read this quote from Professor Richard Middleton, in his book "Popular Music, Volume I: Folk or Popular? And I quote "Presley never understood the artistic claims that were made for him, probably thought very little of the nature of his appeal, or his music; Presley viewed music as for the body, not the mind, so he recorded and performed accordingly; and, if some of his music sounds superficial, it was thanks to his undoubted vocal talent and extraordinary charisma that, at least, it was all gloriously superficial and celebratory; he knew better than to take it seriously and, in doing so, he became the consummate music figure, one that defined its spirit by delighting in its very limitations. Unquote. The key sentence being " defined its spirit by delighting in its very limitations." which os the total opposite to the American dream of exercising its power. to the limit.

How much did this movie studio pay SCENE to write this promo ad/article? I see you've kept it on the latest page for an extended amount of time though there has been little interest in this article.

BJ you might be the most liberal indoctrinated idiot on the scene staff.

Though we live in a time of disinformation, it's easy not to assist in spreading it. You should really look at those people you praise and promote. It's hard to believe anyone would follow evil leaders without hesitation but we see you.

Re: “Jennifer Lawrence Strips Down for Pulpy Spy Flick 'Red Sparrow'

Jennifer Lawrence's theatrical "accent" is worse than the parody from WWE's heel valet/wrestler Lana (Catherine Joy Perry). And Perry actually danced with the Latvian National Ballet as a teen.

I can't wait for her to fix democracy with her elementary school education, connections to sex offenders, and constant flow of cell phone porn leaks.

Her entitlement is nauseating.
