After the release of last year’s Time ‘n’ Place, the London-based bilingual art-pop band Kero Kero Bonita returned last month with the new EP Civilisation I. Written, produced and recorded in the bedroom of KKB’s Gus Lobban, the EP explores themes from religion to the apocalypse and features a shimmering mix of pop and jazz fusion in songs such as “The River,” a breezy track that features flinty synths and upper-register vocals. Willie Nile

Wed., Oct. 16, 7 p.m.
The Winchester 12112 Madison Ave., Lakewood Western Suburbs

In the late ’70s and early ’80s, critics hailed Buffalo-born singer-songwriter Willie Nile, a guy who promised to be the new Dylan. Those aspirations didn't entirely come to fruition, but Nile has continued to put out great records. His 2017 album, Positively Bob: Willie Nile Sings Bob Dylan, finds him covering Dylan tracks such as "The Times They Are A-Changin'" and "Blowin' in the Wind." Nile speeds up the tempo the tunes and puts his own roots rock spin on them. Expect to hear plenty of Dylan as well as Nile's original tunes at tonight's show as he comes to town tonight in support of last year's Children of Paradise, a terrific disc that features calls-to-arms such as "Don't" and "Seeds of a Revolution." Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band

Thu., Oct. 17, 7:30 p.m.
MGM Northfield Park 10705 Northfield Rd., Northfield Eastern Suburbs

The Traveler, the latest offering from singer-guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd, kicks off with a bang as both “Woman Like You” and “Long Time Running” pack a punch. Both songs draw equally from blues and rock, and Sheperd’s rough vocals make the songs feel particularly gritty and potent. Decades into his career, the Louisiana native sounds as riled up as ever. After performing the Buffalo Springfield tune “Mr. Soul” at a benefit show with Springfield founders Stephen Stills and Neil Young, he decided to include it on this album. The disc also includes his take on the Joe Walsh rocker "Turn to Stone." (Niesel) 330-908-7793
