Distinctive Lineup Features 19 Authors, 5 Free Events, Multimedia Comedy Presentation & Breakfast with Cookie Mouse September 24, 2019, (Beachwood, OH) The Mandel JCC announces its 20th Annual Cleveland Jewish Book Festival, one of the country’s major Jewish book festivals, kicks off today at the Mandel Jewish Community Center. This year’s incarnation features 13 nationally acclaimed authors and six authors with local ties. Esquire and former New Yorker cartoonist Bob Mankoff will be on hand, and there will be five free events, a multimedia comedy presentation on the modern Jewish experience and a special event about Jewish foods. It all starts tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Mandel JCC (26001 South Woodland Road, Beachwood) with Ronald Balson, a trial attorney, educator and author of the bestselling novel, Once We Were Brothers. Case Western Reserve University invites the community to engage with prominent academic leaders and international experts through the Think Forum lectures. The series continues November 5 with playwright, screenwriter, and librettist David Henry Hwang. Hwang is a Tony Award winner, an OBIE Award winner, and a two-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. He is the most-produced living American opera librettist, whose works have been honored with two Grammy Awards. Stage works include M. Butterfly and Yellow Face, and the newly opened Soft Power. Hwang will share his writing process, explaining how the artist creates art, but art recreates the artist. 216-368-6062
