MaDaCol Dance Concert

The Department of Dance at Case Western Reserve University is pleased to announce this spring’s production of MaDaCol (Mather Dance Collective) presented on April 18 and 19 at 8:00 p.m. and April 20 at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Performances will feature new dance works by graduate students Brandon Gregoire and Yuting Zhao, undergraduate Amanda Lindamood, and the return of a work by CWRU alumna Ziying Cui. MaDaCol, one of the university’s oldest undergraduate student organizations, offers an important creative outlet for CWRU graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, staff, and the greater Cleveland community members. $7

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater continues to push dance into new territory while still honoring signature classics like Revelations, Ailey’s masterpiece of hope and redemption, Revelations. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

It Takes Two!

Now in its 11th year, the annual GroundWorks DanceTheater benefit It Takes Two! will showcase local celebrities who’ll be partnered with GroundWorks company members to perform original dance routines in a Dancing With the Stars-style competition. Local celebs such as Western Reserve valuation services director Rand Curtiss, Fairport & Luma wealth advisor Emily Drake, Brunswick Companies Sr. Vice President Michelle Hirsch, Cleveland Foundation program officer for evaluation and learning Myron J. Marshall, Jr., Evergreen Cooperatives CEO John McMicken, City Club of Cleveland CEO Dan Moulthrop and Calfee senior advisor Cindy Vrsansky Schulz will participate. The event benefits GroundWorks’ educational and outreach programming. This year’s gala marks the fourth year at the Cleveland Museum of Art, but for the first time ever, the event will take place in the CMA Atrium. Malpaso is bringing the heat of Cuba to close the summer dance festival with a performance that will feature choreography that will honor the roots of modern dance as well as new head-turning choreographers of today. Since its establishment in 2012, Malpaso has already become one of the most sought after Cuban dance companies with a growing international profile. The company will perform and evening of three works including, Face the Torrent, a new work by NYC-based choreographer Sonya Tayeh which was created in part during the Company’s 2017 residency in Cleveland. $25-$55
