Sing Out is an event raising awareness about rape & sexual abuse and raises critical funds needed for the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center. The Time is Now for us all to come together to support survivors in Northeast Ohio. The event features a performance by the all-star Sing Out! Chorale exhibiting a unified, powerful voice through the silence surrounding the issue of sexual abuse. Chaired by Kristen Baird Adams and Paul Clark from PNC, Sing Out! promises to inspire. Story Club is a show for true stories that's held in Chicago, Boston, Minnepolis, Belgrade, and now Cleveland! Each show has featured performers and three open mic slots. Open mic participants sign up at 7PM. If more than three people sign up then we draw names from a hat. Open micers are given 8 minutes (1300) words in which to tell a true story. Every show the audience votes for their favorite story, which is published in Story Club Magazine ( $10 suggested donation

The Distinguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word

The Distinguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word are a group of African-American young men, ages 8-18, who study the art of performance poetry. The group seeks to impact and inspire with their powerful stories, reciting works from Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Shakespeare, Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, and others, as well as their own original poetry. Their performances incorporate elements of classic poetry, movement (mime/breaking/flexing) and the art of spoken word. The Distinguished Gentlemen have performed throughout the state of Ohio at churches, schools, and community events; and at half-time shows for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Free

Join ECPL, Twelve Literary Arts, and the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland in welcoming Chrystos for a poetry reading! Chrystos, of the Menominee Nation, is a poet and activist born in San Francisco. In addition to her own poetry collections, her work has been featured in This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color and other anthologies. Chrystos won the Audre Lorde International Poetry Competition and has received the Sappho Award of Distinction from the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice. free
