Fostering HOPS

The local nonprofit Fostering Hope will host its fourth annual fundraiser, Fostering HOPS, today at 5:30 p.m. in the Van Aken District on Tuttle Road. There will be guest bartenders, a silent auction, food and live DJs, including local DJ Zosimo Maximo. The event will kick off with a special ticketed Chef Challenge featuring James Beard Award- winning chefs Jonathon Sawyer of Sawyer's and Greenhouse Tavern, and Michael Schwartz of Michael's Genuine. Xhibition, an apparel and footwear retailer, will feature a special VIP area where DJ Steph Floss, who DJs at Cavs games, will make an appearance. This annual fundraiser supports Fostering Hope's mission of "enriching the lives of children living in foster care and residential treatment by providing unique experiences and giving the community opportunities to profoundly impact a child's life." This year, Fostering Hope will likely serve more than 1,000 children through programming centered on childhood experiences, heath and wellness, and community involvement. Female Entrepreneur Summit

Contempo Design + Communications, the locally based founder and producer of the annual Female Entrepreneur Summit (FES), has booked 25 speakers for its eighth annual day devoted to the female entrepreneur. The event aims to allow female business leaders to “connect, learn, and grow.” It’ll take place starting at 8 this morning at the Cleveland History Center, where more than 25 successful industry professionals will share opportunities and personal testimonials. Keynote speakers include Nathalie Molina Niño, the author of LEAPFROG, The New Revolution for Women Entrepreneurs and an “impact investor” targeting high-growth businesses that benefit women and the planet, and Claire Coder, the founder of Aunt Flow, an initiative with a mission to “ensure everyone has access to menstrual products.” The 2019 FES will cover an array of topics designed to help entrepreneurs learn and succeed. Cleveland Stories Dinner Party is a weekly series that pairs fine food with storytelling. The goal of the series is to "bring to life some of the fun, interesting stories about Cleveland's past — from sports, to rock 'n' roll, to Millionaires' Row," as it's put in a press release. Admission is free, with no cover charge, although a prix fixe dinner, designed to complement the night's theme, is $20. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner is served at 6, and the storytelling starts at 7. Behind the Lens with Oscar Award-winning Filmmaker Howard Rosenman

As part of the Life with Lenny Series that accompanies the new Leonard Bernstein: The Power of Music exhibit at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, filmmaker Howard Rosenman will give the talk Behind the Lens with Oscar Award-winning Filmmaker Howard Rosenman, and talk about how a chance encounter with Bernstein led to a romantic relationship and kick-started a monumental career in show business. Over the course of his career, Rosenman has created more than 43 films, and this fall, he'll start production on Anita, the Anita Bryant story, starring Ashley Judd, Neil Patrick Harris and Mayim Bialik.
