The Mowgli's/Mainland

Tue., Feb. 20, 8 p.m.

An L.A.-based indie rock act that plays a mix of West Coast pop, garage rock and Laurel Canyon folk, the Mowgli’s have slowly acquired traction since forming back in 2010. “Freakin’ Me Out,” the first single from the band’s most recent album, 2016's Where’d Your Weekend Go, features call-and-response vocals and a vigorous mid-song guitar solo. It's a snappy tune that sits well with the other snappy tunes in the band's ever-growing catalog. (Niesel) $20

Scott H. Biram/Hooten Hallers/Graeves

Thu., Feb. 22, 9 p.m.

Scott H. Biram once performed right after Kris Kristofferson at SXSW. Rather than wilt under the pressure, he allegedly told the crowd "They said that was a hard act to follow ... I'm a hard act to follow motherfuckers." And that's the swaggering sentiment Biram brings to all aspects of his life. Through the traditional Americana and contemporary rock instrumentation, the one-man act waxes poetic about being crazy and drunk and blue. His records serve up helping after helping of raw hillbilly blues stew, including his recent album, The Bad Testament. Expect the unexpected from his Beachland Ballroom set. Valerie June/The War and Treaty

Fri., Feb. 23, 8 p.m.

Last year was full of performances and promotion for Tennessee artist Valerie June. Her schedule even included a stop at Farm Aid with Willie Nelson. Starting with the release of The Order of Stone, the follow-up to her 2013 record co-produced by Dan Auerbach, the singer-songwriter has been on the move. Given her nasally, profoundly affected and haunted voice, it makes sense she's a star on the rise. Her music stems from that old-timey sound and possesses a sort of calming blues effect. With its lyrical prose and musicality, the latest record is especially moving. June is sure to bring all of that sensibility to the Beachland Ballroom stage tonight. (Morrison) $25
