Togishi Album Release

Sun., Feb. 24, 7 p.m.

A local trio consisting of guitarist Mike Sopko, drummer Joe Tomino and saxophonist Dan Wenninger, Togishi plays entirely improvised music influenced by avant-garde jazz, experimental rock, contemporary classical and electronic noise. In 2016 Sopko and Tomino started playing improv gigs around Cleveland and formed the stoner/doom band, Yellowstone Apocalypse. It was around this time that Wenninger approached the duo about playing an improvised gig at the 1Way (a longstanding experimental and new music showcase in Cleveland). Togishi formed in the wake of that gig. Songs such as "The Rise and Fall of Higbee's" recall John Zorn with their squealing saxophones and spastic drumming. (Niesel) $10

Badfish/Bumpin' Uglies/Roots of Creation

Fri., Feb. 22, 8 p.m.

The thing about the Sublime tribute band Badfish is that they perfectly encapsulate the vision set forth by Sublime's singer, the late Bradley Nowell, back in the day. While putting their own twist on certain songs, the band members keep the energetic spirit of Sublime alive, all while proferring the music to younger generations and new fans alike. They formed in 2001 at the University of Rhode Island, and it's been a wild ride ever since. Each time they come around to the region, they seem to be bolder and more invigorated. Seven or eight years ago, they were a slimmed-down version of themselves playing smaller bars around Ohio, including a long-gone Blue Gator in Athens. A frontman change in 2007 opened up their sound and ensured that there was no slowing down for these guys. (Eric Sandy) $25 ADV, $30 DOS

Wiz Khalifa/Curren$y

Sat., Feb. 23, 8 p.m.

A few years ago, rapper Wiz Khalifa shared headlining duties with Fall Out Boy for a tour that came through town for a stop at Blossom. Khalifa delivered a high-energy 70-minute set that even appealed to the fans that had simply come to see Fall Out Boy. The wiry, dreadlocked singer didn’t have much stage presence, but he had energy to spare and even ran to the lawn to sing “Taylor Gang.” Having a live band really helped bring out the nuances of his music and his set ended on a high note with a one-song encore that featured the poppy crossover hit “See You Again.” And yes, he appeared to light up a joint during the weed-soaked performance. Expect something similar this time around as he comes to town for a club gig with Curren$y. (Niesel) $55 ADV, $60 DOS
