Wade Oval Wednesdays

Wednesdays. Continues through Aug. 30

A summer tradition, Wade Oval Wednesday, which takes place every Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Wade Oval in University Circle, provides the opportunity to catch a free concert — jazz, swing, world music, and more. Between sets, check out the local food vendors, the beer and wine tent, the farmers’ market, and free kid activities — all laid out on the Wade Oval lawn that's adjacent to Cleveland Botanical Garden, the Cleveland Art Museum, and the Cleveland Natural History Museum. The series continues every Wednesday through August 30. (Niesel) universitycircle.org.

Miss May I/Upon a Burning Body/Kublai Khan/Currents/A Sense of Purpose/Savannah Smiles

Wed., June 28, 6 p.m.

Upon releasing their sixth studio album Shadows Inside in early June, Ohio natives Miss May I come home for tonight’s the Shadows Inside Tour with support from Upon A Burning Body, Kublai Khan and Currents. Forming in 2007 in Troy, Ohio, Miss May I released their debut album, Apologies Are for the Weak, in 2009. The album features heavy, punched in the face guitar riffs and fast paced vocals courtesy of screamer Levi Benton. There are moments of breathing room as singer/bassist Ryan Neff eases the songs into the main chorus with his clean vocals. Despite the heavy, angry vibe, the lyrics are seamlessly infused with words of hope and inspiration, though the guys don’t necessarily consider themselves a religious band. Though Miss May I have been around for a decade, the sound and style hasn’t changed over time except for a slight shift into a more melodic style. (Adrian Leuthauser) $16 ADV, $19 DOS

Dead and Co.

Wed., June 28, 7 p.m.

The John Mayer-fronted incarnation of the Grateful Dead’s legacy finally makes its way to Northeast Ohio tonight. Bobby, Billy and Mickey are along for the ride, representing the actual Dead and joining Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge and the ubiquitous Jeff Chimenti on keys. There’s been a lot of hype for this early leg of the summer tour, and we’ve heard some mighty fine stuff on recent soundboard releases. (Check out the Boulder shows That “Althea” is sublime.) Listen: These shows are about mood and time more than anything, about channeling the spirit of eras displaced from the past. You won’t want to miss it. Let the good times roll. (Eric Sandy) $40-$149

A Radical Revolt Against a Revolting Culture UK Slam champion David Lee Morgan spits rhythm, rhyme and intense lyrics over music composed by Michael Harding of Animat. The show begins with the roar of the jungle and follows the broad sweep of human history as it develops through revolution, defeat, and renewed revolution. What can we learn from our past revolutions, both the achievements and mistakes? Are we doomed to be forever controlled by the market forces that rule over us like some blind idiot god? $5 donation to benefit Revolution Books
