Cleveland Botanical Garden celebrates one of the world’s most exotic and beautiful flowers at its annual Orchid Mania show, opening Saturday, January 26 and running through Sunday, March 10. More than three thousand orchid flowers in every shape, size, scent and color will fill the halls of the Botanical Garden, creating exotic and alluring encounters to warm your winter. The show will highlight orchids’ special features that have made them one of the longest-lived plant groups on earth. Visitors will even be able to observe orchids through a magnifying glass. $12 adults, $8 children

What happens when the last Holocaust survivor is no longer with us? Who will tell their story? The Maltz Museum is launching a first-of-its-kind effort in Cleveland to preserve Holocaust memory. Starting this July you can be part of the beta test of Stanley Bernath, a local Holocaust survivor, whose story has been memorialized as an interactive biography. Join us as we explore what it means to hear from and interact with hologram technology on a screen in our theater. Included with Museum admission

Genesis 2.0 focuses on the harsh and dangerous life of so-called mammoth hunters who live and work on the remote New Siberian Islands in the far north of Siberia. The film captures the gold rush fever that exists because the prices for this "white gold" have never been so high. Sometimes, the hunters even find an almost completely preserved mammoth carcass with fur, liquid blood and muscle tissue intact. The movie shows tonight at 7 at the Cedar Lee Theatre as part of the Reel Science Series. Roberta Muehlheim, Assistant Curator Department of Vertebrate Zoology, will host the screening. Notes on an Appearance, director Ricky D'Ambrose's debut film, centers on a young man who mysteriously disappears after starting his research for a biography he plans to write about a sinister social theorist. The movie makes its Cleveland debut tonight at 6:45 at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets cost $10, $7 for Cinematheque members and students. (Niesel)

On Friday, February 22, 2019, the Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) will present Conversations in Courage: A Theatrical Performance of The Meeting, a fictional conversation between Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The reading will star Peter Lawson Jones as Malcolm X and Greg White as Martin Luther King, Jr. and will be directed by Monica Lee Boone. Tickets are $15 for students and $25 for adults. SHAC members receive a $5 discount.
