Presented by the Cleveland Museum of Art Born and raised in Lebanon, American photographer Rania Matar uses the portrait to examine the nature of female identity in girlhood, adolescence, and middle age in the United States and the Middle East. Matar emphasizes “underlying similarities rather than apparent differences across cultures” and looks for the “beauty in our shared humanity” in her art. Author Ben Vendetta will speak with local music journalist Jason Pettigrew about his new book, Sunset Trip, tonight at 6:30 at the Happy Dog. Set in and around the Y2K Los Angeles psych rock scene, which included bands such as Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Warlocks, Beachwood Sparks and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, the novel centers on the life and times of a fictional music journalist. Warren Miller's Face of Winter

The release of a new Warren Miller Entertainment ski film signals the start of ski season as much as anything. Tonight at 7, the Capitol will screen his latest movie to feature skiers performing death defying stunts. It's the 69th installment of the series and includes clips from Engleberg, Chamonix, British Columbia, Alaska, Chile, Iceland, New Zealand, Washington and more. It features skiers such as Anna Segal, Dash Longe, Forrest Jillson, Amie Engerbretson, Simon Hillis, Seth Wescott, Jim Ryan and Jess McMillan. Tickets are $16. (Niesel)

A locally produced film written and directed by Zach Shildwachter and BJ Colangelo, Powerbomb tells the story of an independent wrestler on the verge of breaking big. He has second thoughts, however, and contemplates spending more time with his family. When his biggest fan hears that the guy might quit, he decides he must do something to ensure that the wrestler stays committed to the sport. The film makes its world premiere tonight at the Capitol Theatre. It was shot completely in Cleveland, and it includes music from Ohio artists. Each ticket will automatically enter you in a raffle for a raffle basket featuring items from The Savage Stash, Marty and Sarah Love Wrestling and more. A Q&A with the cast and crew will take place after the screening. The program begins at 7. Tickets are $12.
