John Witherspoon

Fri., Oct. 18

If you're going to see comedian John Witherspoon tonight at the Improv, where he performs at 7:30 and 10, you'd better dress up — because "you got to coordinate," as he puts it. That catchphrase comes from one of the comedian's signature routines. Witherspoon has worked alongside famous comedians such as Ice Cube, Adam Sandler, Eddie Murphy and Chris Tucker, and starred as Pops on The Wayans Brothers. But he might be best known for voicing "Grandad" on the animated series The Boondocks. His standup routine is even similar to the Boondocks character he portrays; it features fast-paced jokes that keep coming at you. He has shows scheduled at the Improv through Sunday. Tickets are $25. Pete Lee

Fri., Oct. 18

The first standup comedian to get a standing ovation on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, comedian Pete Lee likes to joke about how he's such a huge people pleaser, he even hugs Uber drivers goodbye and offers to drive for them. The nerdy comic is currently a cast member of TruTV's Greatest Ever and hosts NFL Rush on Nickelodeon's Nick Toons. He performs at 7 and 9 tonight at Hilarities, where he has shows scheduled through Sunday. Check the website for ticket prices. (Niesel) 216-241-7425
