Today from noon to 7 p.m., the Beer Engine in Lakewood hosts a special Pigtoberfest. The folks there hope it will be the first of many annual such events. Sierra Nevada and Weihenstephaner beers will be served by the stein. The $15 tickets includes a plate of pork with Engine BBQ sauce, house-made German potato salad, corn on the cob and garlic ciabatta bread. Plus, the Beer Engine has a vast beer selection, so if Sierra Nevada and Weihenstephaner aren't to your likely, you'll have plenty of other options. Dancing with the Docs

The Auxiliary of University Hospitals funds 70 different programs, including A Celebration of Lives, Pedriatic Bereavement Support, Be Our Guest, Pet Pals, NICY Breastfeeding Program. Dancing with Docs, a benefit that takes palce tonight at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven, raises funds for these programs. William Shatner

William Shatner may be older than your grandparents, but this famed actor, singer and cheeseball refuses to throw in the towel. At 87, Shatner plans to appear at the Akron Civic Theatre today at 5 p.m. for a screening of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, one of the most critically-acclaimed films of the entire Star Trek film enterprise. Following the night's showing, Captain Kirk himself will take to the stage to answer fans' burning questions. He'll also no doubt tell a bunch of stories about himself, a subject he knows well. The film screening and talk is just part of a recent spat of shows put on by the Canadian legend. Tickets start at $53.25. VIP packages are also available for those willing to shell out the dough. SAVE THE DATE for the Green Ribbon Coalition's Second Annual Bike Tour, Pedal the Green Ribbon. The route starts at Edgewater Beach and follows the new Shoreway bike trail to the Flats accessing the Centennial and Scranton Road Trails, and back to Edgewater via Hingetown and Gordon Square. There will be a rest stop at Merwin's Wharf with presentations on Irishtown Bend, Red Line Greenway, and the Coalition's proposed Harbor Land Bridge. A nonprofit that houses and helps low-income adults will celebrate its 140th anniversary at a fundraising gala Sat., Sept. 22. Cogswell Hall’s “Coming Home,” from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bohemian National Hall, will also honor President Hal Keller of the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing. Evening includes an open bar, a silent auction, raffles, and several stations serving plentiful food prepared on site by Chef Heinz Yee of Otani Restaurants. The Hot Djang Gypsy Jazz quartet will provide music. Master of Ceremonies will be Michael McIntyre, host of “The Sound of Ideas” weekdays on WCPN (90.3 FM). $85
