World Fighting Championships

For the first time in nearly five years, mixed martial arts will return to Hard Rock Live tonight at 6:30 as World Fighting Championships 99 comes to the venue. In one of the main fights, Cleveland’s JT Miller will take on Chicago native PJ Cajigas. Miller is a former Cleveland State wrestler from world-renowned Strong Style MMA. In the co-main event, Cleveland’s Frank Caraballo will fight Toledo’s Antonio Castillo Jr. A slew of other bouts will take place tonight too. You must be 21 or older to attend. Tickets start at $35. The Pop Tarts

The Pop Tarts, a dynamic 1960s girl singing group will deliver a blast from the past today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Beachwood Community Center. The Cleveland group features members who go by names such as Luscious Lemon Tart, Wild Blueberry Tart, Very Cherry Tarts and Sweet Apple Tart. Expect to hear tracks by acts such as the Chiffons, the Shirelles and the Supremes. Admission is free. (Niesel)

Passing Through

Some critics have called Larry Clark's 1978 flick Passing Through, the "greatest jazz movie ever made." The film follows a saxophonist as he's released from prison and tries to connect with his grandfather. The soundtrack features songs by John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Eric Dolphy and Sun Ra. It screens at 2 p.m. at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets cost $12, $9 for Cinematheque members and students. (Niesel)

On Friday, February 22, 2019, the Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) will present Conversations in Courage: A Theatrical Performance of The Meeting, a fictional conversation between Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The reading will star Peter Lawson Jones as Malcolm X and Greg White as Martin Luther King, Jr. and will be directed by Monica Lee Boone. Tickets are $15 for students and $25 for adults. SHAC members receive a $5 discount.

What happens when the last Holocaust survivor is no longer with us? Who will tell their story? The Maltz Museum is launching a first-of-its-kind effort in Cleveland to preserve Holocaust memory. Starting this July you can be part of the beta test of Stanley Bernath, a local Holocaust survivor, whose story has been memorialized as an interactive biography. Join us as we explore what it means to hear from and interact with hologram technology on a screen in our theater. Included with Museum admission
