Anisfield-Wolf Salon: Steven Pinker and Henry Louis Gates Jr.

In both The Better Angels of Our Nature and his bestseller Enlightenment Now, author Steven Pinker maintains there has never been a better time to be a human being. Today at 5:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Pinker joins, Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards jurors, friends and Harvard University professor and scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. to discuss the issue. Mike Paramoe and Aaron Kleiber

Voted class clown in high school, comedian Aaron Kleiber has built up quite the resume. He received some terrific exposure when he embarked on the #Deathsquad Tour with Doug Benson, Tom Segura, Tony Hinchcliffe and Brian Redban, and he's appeared on the very funny podcast Doug Loves Movies with Doug Benson. An alum of Chicago's Second City, Kleiber recently served as standup director for the Pittsburgh Comedy Festival. A frenetic comic, he likes to joke about personal things such as his marriage and kids. He shares the bill tonight at 8 at Hilarities with local comic Mike Paramore. Tickets start at $18. The two have shows scheduled at the club through Sunday. (Niesel)

It took years for Rock Hall Inductee Joan Jett, the former singer in the Runaways, to become a success. The documentary film Bad Reputation chronicles her rise to fame and includes footage from her punk rock days and from the time when she became a staple on MTV. It shows tonight at 7:30 at the Capitol Theatre. Tickets cost $9.75. (Niesel)

Approximately twenty of Northeast Ohio’s premier chefs will each thrill a party of twelve guests with a lavish five-course meal, cooked tableside and paired with wines, at a table decorated to capture the spirit of each chef’s visionary cuisine. Our event also includes a cocktail hour, special program from our LIVEr Champion, raffles, and a fabulous silent and live auction.
