Hoppin' Frog Hoppy Hour

Starts Aug. 29. Wednesdays

The Hoppin' Frog tasting room in Akron is in a nondescript strip of storage facilities and warehouses. But step inside and you'll find a cozy space with a huge array of the brewery's wonderful libations. The place features "hoppy hour" every weekday from 3 to 7 p.m. Tonight, the brewers visit the tasting room from 5 to 7 p.m. While they don't fill growlers, you can drink bottles on site or take 'em to go. The place also offers a "Hoppin' Frog Rare & Vintage" list as well as a guest bottle list. And you can order from a limited food menu too. (Niesel)

Clara Barton - Civil War Nurse

Fri., Aug. 17, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sat., Aug. 18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sun., Aug. 19, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
phone 330-858-9720

Cuyahoga Valley will be celebrating Nurses and Doctors from the Civil War Era and will feature Clara Barton with a special exhibit. Clara was a pioneering nurse who founded the American Red Cross. We found that Clara Barton had multiple ties to the people who lived in the valley; some of which come from communities near where Clara grew up and lived. Clara started out as a nurse during the American Civil War working in hospitals and even sometimes the battlefields. At a time when few women worked outside the home Clara was famous for her humanitarian work. Free

Rascal Flatts/Dan + Shay/Carly Pearce

Fri., Aug. 17, 7:30 p.m.

Rascal Flatts are one of the most iconic country bands of all time. Heartfelt ballads like “Bless the Broken Road,” an anthem for anyone who believes everything happens for a reason, are the band’s best work. “What Hurts the Most,” a twangy breakup tune, is the clear standout of the band’s hit-filled catalog. With thoughtful lyrics and catchy instrumentals, it’s the perfect sing-along. Dan + Shay’s career has skyrocketed in recent years. The duo saw major success with its 2018 single “Tequila,” a stripped-down nostalgia-filled ode to an ex-lover. In “Speechless, a more optimistic track, the duo describes the beauty of a special lady. The soft, R&B infused production laid over everything, but the chorus makes the song a cool change-up for a country act. Carly Pearce has quickly become a vital part of the revolution for females in country music. “Every Little Thing,” the most intimate song Pearce has ever written displays her gorgeous vocals and lyrical talent with toned-down piano backing. “Hide the Wine,” Pearce’s latest single, sets the tone by opening with a killer riff. The upbeat track is about avoiding getting sucked back in by an old flame. (Weber) $32.50-$97.25
