Now in its second year, the group is honored to again work with NEOPAT on the golf tournament and help to support our local military hero’s.

Curtail Release Show/Runaway Brother/My Mouth is the Speaker/Mineral Girls

Fri., May 25, 7:15 p.m.

Singer-guitarist Jesse Sloan Cherry (Cola Champions & Bethesda), singer-guitarist Ben Hendricks (Annabel), drummer Eric Sandt (The Ground is Lava/ Heavenly Creatures) and bassist Dan Corby (of Bethesda), the members of the Akron-based indie rock act Curtail, say their band sounds like “if Sheryl Crow wrote songs for Archers of Loaf.” The Archers of Loaf part of that description is definitely on point as the tunes on the band’s excellent forthcoming debut, All Your Luck, feature tender vocals and undulating rhythms that recall the aforementioned Chapel Hill-based band. Recorded and produced by guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Ben Hendricks in his Akron home studio, the album was mixed and mastered by Tim Gerak (Six Parts Seven) in Denver at his Mammoth Cave Studios. It sounds like it came right out of the '90s underground and evokes acts such as Superchunk and Pavement. (Niesel) $8

Caitlin Canty

Sat., May 26

Produced by Punch Brothers banjoist Noam Pikelny and featuring a band of some of Nashville's best session players, Caitlin Canty's new album, Motel Bouquet, sounds surprisingly cohesive, given that Canty wrote the tunes in airplanes, motels and concert venues after moving from New York to Nashville. Album opener, "Take Me For a Ride," shows off her dreamy vocals, and strings liven up the ballad "River Alone." Canty performs tonight at 8 p.m. at the G.A.R. Hall in Peninsula. Tickets are $17 in advance, or $22 at the door. (Niesel)
