Crestwood Local Schools superintendent David Toth announced Monday that the high school would resume its football program, which has been suspended since Sep. 29. An investigation into alleged student misconduct by Mantua police was completed last week.
The Mantua police chief said all interviews and information have been forwarded to the Portage County Prosecutor's office, which will determine if criminal charges will be filed, but that the incident in question appeared to be "horseplay," not hazing. No one was injured.
The Crestwood suspension resulted in two canceled games, against Mogadore and Garrettsville. The team will take on Rootstown Friday at 7 p.m.
In David Toth's press release Monday, he reiterated that he could not reveal specifics about the case due to privacy laws. But he said the school district was “dealing with young student-athletes who have taken responsibility for their actions and have accepted the resulting consequences.”
