Attorney and restaurateur David Cameron knows a hungry diner when he sees one, and the thousands of white-collar types who flock to Solon's bustling businesses each day represent a lot of potential empty tummies. So when space in the heart of the city's industrial area became available last year, Cameron and partner Kwan Kuen "Kenny" Chau didn't hesitate to make their move. The duo, also responsible for the well-established Hunan by the Falls in Chagrin Falls, opened their serene little Hunan Solon (6050 Enterprise Parkway, 440-248-8836) in January, with both lunch and dinner menus of authentic Asian and Pacific Rim delights, including Szechwan Sesame Noodles, Empress Chicken, and delicious Walnut Prawns. And the eatery's casual, contemporary atmosphere, with Greek columns, natural maple woodwork, jade-green Italian wall sconces, and a collection of surreal, computer-enhanced veggie prints by Cleveland Heights artist Kasumi, is almost as soothing as the food.

Raw dealing . . . After a series of routine construction delays, owner Tom Kolkar and Chef Gregg Korney, along with their team of experienced Japanese sushi chefs, have finally thrown open the big oak doors to the Warehouse District's newest restaurant, Sushi Rocks (1280 West Sixth Street, 216-623-1212). The beautifully renovated space makes a lively backdrop for Korney and Co.'s menu of American-Asian fusion fare and sushi. So far, restaurant hours are limited to dinner, but watch for the addition of lunch hours in upcoming months.

Season's changes . . . The crocuses blossom, the redwings soar, and flocks of Cleveland chefs debut their spring menus during March. Among those preparing to roll out new culinary collections are Greg MacLaren (MacLaren's Cuisine, Twinsburg), who has been working up a delightful Crab and Goat Cheese Strudel; Jonathan Kish (Harry Corvairs, downtown), who promises a seasonal slant to sides and sauces that accompany menu standbys like chargrilled rack of lamb and crispy glazed duck; and Brandt Evans (Kosta's, Tremont), who has us anticipating an upcoming Thai shrimp-and-peanut salad served in an edible bowl of candied grapefruit peel.

Queen of arts . . . When it comes to food, Donna Redman Hann -- The Culinary Artist -- does it all. And along with hubby Charles, Hann recently celebrated the grand opening of her strikingly beautiful private dining room and professional kitchen in a vintage Ohio City building on West 25th Street. The elegant room, with its venerable brick walls and 15-foot-high, copper-colored ceiling of intricate pressed tin, can accommodate private affairs for up to 20 sit-down guests (40 for cocktails), and Hann's personalized menus of top-notch foods can be designed for any occasion. On a recent visit, we couldn't get enough of her Almond-Stuffed Dates wrapped in crisp bacon, flaky Wild Mushroom Palmiers, and clever "tuxedoed" strawberries. The self-taught and hugely talented artist also designs impressive tabletops, incorporating fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, and appropriate props into designs both whimsical and refined.
