But just weeks after finishing up their farewell tour last fall, the various Devils were back in action. Bassist Derek Fudesco hooked up with the progressive punks in Pretty Girls Make Graves, while frontman Spencer Moody, drummer Coady Willis, and guitarist Nate Manny have resurfaced in Dead Low Tide. Rounded out by former Enemymine and Godheadsilo bassist/vocalist Mike Kunka and the Devils' trusty roadie Gabe, Dead Low Tide is even more mournful and menacing than the Murder City Devils were.
Of course, the troupe is full of touchstones to the Devils -- namely Moody's drunken, paranoiac slur and Manny's torrential guitar. But the most notable difference is Kunka's hefty bass, which makes the Devils sound wafer-thin in comparison. Blanketed in Moody's oblique, funereal lyrics, preoccupied with sailors and seediness of all sorts, it's loud, living proof that blood still flows through these boys' veins.
