Teen art has come a long way from portraits of Stevie Nicks and landscapes of unicorn-populated fields. Lakewood Middle School Art Exhibit features an array of colorful abstracts, mobiles, and pop art. Four teachers from two Lakewood middle schools -- Emerson and Harding -- recruited their students for the exhibition, which features more than 100 pieces, ranging from drawings, prints, and calligraphy to masks and mosaics. The results reveal abilities beyond many of the kids' young ages. Lakewood Middle School Art Exhibit runs through June 20 at Dead Horse Gallery (14900 Detroit Avenue #311 in Lakewood). Today's Roll'n on the River Rubber Ducky Derby offers contestants two types of racing duck: the $5 "patriotic" model, which sports an Uncle Sam-style hat, and the elite $10 version emblazoned with the words "Chagrin Falls." It's doubtful that the extra five bucks will get your bird over the upper falls of the Chagrin River any faster; it's just a matter of how good it looks getting there. Sixty winners will be rewarded -- 10 of them with "Top Duck" prizes valued at $100 each. The derby takes place at 3 p.m. at Riverside Park, in conjunction with the Art by the Falls outdoor festival, on North Main Street in Chagrin Falls. AMC Theatres plugs its competition.

AMC's Read for the Stars promotes a book-smart approach to moviegoing. Children who read three books over the summer will receive a "kid's pack" of soft drinks, popcorn, and other goodies. The catch? Kids have to write a short report on each of the books, have a parent sign a form available online, and bring both to the movie house. Expect a line at the concession stand: AMC predicts it will pop 15,350 pounds of popcorn and pour 28,125 gallons of pop for 150,000 kids across the country.
