Funny Fitness
The comedy gym KOs tired punch lines.

WED 7/30

Jenni Lou Oakes is calling all comedians to Stand Up Naked. No, nobody disrobes -- the monthly "comedy-performance gym" encourages comics to bare their best jokes and let the audience dole out constructive critiques. "We get feedback from them, they take notes, and we respond directly to their immediate reactions," says Oakes (pictured), a comic who honed her game on the fabled coffeehouse circuit of Anchorage, Alaska. Comedians from as far as Pittsburgh and Dayton work out at the gym, switching jokes with other comics, developing stage presence, and fine-tuning material. "As with any gym, we will stretch and strengthen our muscles," Oakes says. "Comic muscles."

But why "naked"? Oakes just likes the word. "It's short and percussive, with good consonants," she says. Stand Up Naked is at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Zephyr Pub, 106 East Main Street in Kent. Admission and participation are free, but all comics must be at least 21 years old; call 330-678-4848. -- Cris Glaser

Got Mik?

7/24-11/16

Aernout Mik's museum-installed films defy cinematic rules: They are silent, curiously staged, and make little sense. They're also totally entrancing. Mik's self-titled exhibit is at the Cleveland Museum of Art (11150 East Boulevard) through November 16. It's open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (except Monday). Admission is free; call 216-421-7340. -- Michael Gallucci
