At 33, Jenni Meno hears her biological clock ticking. After 13 years of skating together, she and 40-year-old hubby Todd Sand -- three-time national pairs champions -- are performing their swan song at Smucker's Stars on Ice, which comes to town Friday. "We really want to try and start a family," says the Westlake-born Meno, who now lives in California. "This is the time to do that."
But before the couple gets down to business, their last presentation -- introduced by a video montage of the couple's life on ice -- features a four-minute routine set to a jazzed-up version of "Shall We Dance?" "Once we have grandchildren, we'll be coming back [here] a lot more," Meno says. Stars on Ice takes to the rink at 7:30 p.m. at Gund Arena, 100 Gateway Plaza. Squawk of the Town
The Metroparks wing it.
2/6-2/8
Birders, rejoice! The osprey is on the upswing, and the Metroparks salutes this natural fact in "Friday Nights With Nature: Osprey in Ohio" -- which kicks off Birds of Prey Weekend. Saturday and Sunday are filled with live demonstrations, videos, art, and hikes. "I have the coolest tidbits to relate to audiences," boasts naturalist Dave Wolf, who leads a curriculum on hawks. "Their sheer size makes them the best program birds." Still, don't discount fellow naturalist Ken Gober, who'll do a little armchair philosophizing on the fowl attraction. "[Birds of prey] tend to perch nearly upright," he says, "giving them the appearance of people." It takes flight 6:15 to 10 p.m. Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Rocky River Nature Center, 24000 Valley Parkway in North Olmsted. Admission is free; call 440-734-6660. -- Lucy McKernan
Valhalla, They Are Winning
SAT 2/7
The roundball-playing ladies of the Cleveland State University Vikings are having a pretty good season so far. In fact, they're playing their best ball in 15 years. On Saturday, they take on the Butler Bulldogs . . . who aren't having such a stellar season. Still, Vikings forward Shannon Sword and point guard Ashley Schrock (a league scoring leader) are killers on the court. Better catch 'em while you can, however, since both are seniors. Game time is 7 p.m. at the CSU Convocation Center, 2000 Prospect Avenue. Tickets are $5, available by calling 216-687-9292. -- Michael Gallucci
