American Idols Live

Thursday, July 29, at the CSU Convocation Center.

Apparently people can't get enough of Fox TV's American Idol. After soaking in it for a few months a year, hardcore fans crave a hearty fix before the new season begins. For those tortured souls, the producers were kind enough to create American Idols Live, a coast-to-coast revue featuring the show's top 10 finalists of the season.

American Idol concerts are carefully scripted showcases of solo performances and Brady Bunch-type group numbers that merit a "G" rating -- just like on TV. The only difference is that this time you get to see it up close and personal instead of through the idiot box. But bring earplugs. Screaming teenage girls make up most of the audience.

Highlights should be Jennifer Hudson, George Huff, LaToya London, Diana DeGarmo, and of course, 2004 Idol Fantasia. Amy Adams, the first of the 10 to be eliminated, could surprise. Other performers might inspire a visit to the candy counter or the heavily stocked merchandise area.

Last summer's American Idols II tour was one of the hottest tickets in the country. Though there will be no appearance by William Hung -- or Simon Cowell -- this should be the most entertaining AI Live to date.
