While the various rhythm sections here are consistently crisp and tight, and ripe for takeoff, the songs and jams mesh with mixed success. On "Fathers Shrine 911," one of Sun's stronger tunes, the connection between the quasi-eastern solo that concludes the song and the song itself is not clear. The psychedelic pop track "On the Scene" seems more ripe for deep production than an extended closing solo. At other times though, as on the spacey slide-guitar segment of "Kashmir Express," the song and the jam are a stronger match.
Showcasing songs and cuttin' loose may not always be compatible goals. But Greg J's eclectic bent suggests that the songs may win out.
