River City Tanlines

The members of River City Tanlines hail from a Memphis scuzz-punk scene that has spawned such lo-fi artists as the Oblivians and the Reatards, as well as the Goner label. No doubt critics will be clamoring that the newest Tanlines CD, I'm Your Negative (Dirtnap), is "too rock." Luckily, lovely Tanlines mastermind Alicja Trout has a skin thickened by years of creating some of the best music of that scene. Initially singer-guitarist with the late-'90s raw hate-wave act Lost Sounds, Trout has since fronted no fewer than three other bands, along with numerous solo projects. Negative is perhaps her most cohesive blend of new-wave angles, catchy garage guitar fuzz, and Suzi Quatro-sized anthems. How the Tanlines will go over on a bill full of Jade Tree bands is anyone's guess. Though there should be common ground between the Tanlines and the choppy aggro post-core of Seattle's These Arms Are Snakes.
