Fed up with waiting in line to buy that new Nintendo Wii? Check out tonight’s Winter Chillin: Games People Played program, which is all about the old-school joys of shuffleboard, Twister, and bingo. “I didn’t really know about a lot of the games my grandma and parents talked about until we did this event last year,” says park rep Chelsea Cohen.

Still, you don’t have to be an AARP member to get a kick out of games like Jack Straws, Hubbub, and Four Square. At 2006’s inaugural outing, Cohen says the center’s young interns “really got into it. They would hold shuffleboard tournaments before we opened for visitors.”

The event is part of the center’s winter series of family-oriented dinner programs. After participants feast on a buffet, they can check out game booths set up throughout the venue. Cohen insists it’s a fun way to spend a Friday night – with nary a mouse, joystick, or Xbox controller in sight. “It’s all about getting down to the basics.”
