Hawk bartender Troy Berry serves up a holiday specialty tonight, while patrons donate food and money to the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland. The 19-year-old drive drums up about $10,000 worth of non-perishables, toiletries, and cash each year. Berry does his part by mixing $3
Gingerbread Man shots, which include Irish cream, cinnamon, and butterscotch schnapps. I was looking through my recipe book for something that tasted like a candy cane or a snow cone, he says. I found this one and was curious. Its my way of saying Merry Christmas.
Berry has reason to celebrate this year. The self-employed handyman abruptly quit his longtime supervisor job at a downtown law firm last year because of the long hours. Two months later, he landed his first-ever bartending gig. I needed a change in life, says Berry. I took a huge pay cut, but money means nothing to me. I dont regret it, because Im smiling again.
