Disabled artists conquer hurdles to make fine art.

Accessible Expressions, the new exhibit in Gallery C at Cleveland State University, is all about overcoming obstacles. Suffering from macular degeneration, hearing loss, and learning disabilities, more than 15 local artists — ages 5 to 85 — contribute paintings, sculpture, and photography. "It's totally inspiring," says gallery director Robert Thurmer. "These people have tremendous capability." The exhibit originated with Very Special Arts Ohio, which is taking its show on the road this summer. Best of all, the work is for sale, with proceeds benefiting the program. Says Thurmer: "The works have all the truth, honesty, and humanness you're looking for in art."
Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun., June 11, 12-4 p.m. Starts: June 5. Continues through June 16
