Berea's National Rib Cook-Off is one of the area's best alternatives to the big barbecue bash happening at Tower City Amphitheater this weekend (see Friday). Slathered with food, games, and live music, it's also one of the area's top values. For kids, there's a children's activity area, with a rock-climbing wall, a huge slide, and one of those inflatable bouncy things. For adults, there are mechanical bull rides and a classic car show. There are plenty of eats to choose from — pierogies, fruit-filled crepes, cotton candy — but it's the juicy slabs of ribs that'll have folks licking their fingers all day. Approximately a dozen vendors (a couple of them come all the way from Texas) bring the heat. Performances by the Clayton Brothers, the Alex Bevan Band, and a Johnny Cash tribute group round out the action.
