The city's most thesp-stuffed area throws a party.

Tonight’s Theater District Block Party and Tour transforms the area surrounding Star Plaza and East 14th Street into “a small city filled with energy,” says Playhouse Square rep Jacqueline York. The eighth-annual bash includes lots of games and food as well as wine and martini bars. It’s quite a change from the neighborhood’s usual highbrow outings, admits York. “We’re taking on a fun, approachable character.”

Look for cornhole competitions, a jump-rope demonstration by the Double Dutch performance group, and a stage blasting live music throughout the event. Plus, cultured dance troupes remind revelers whose hood they’re in. Best of all, organizers throw a district-wide treasure hunt, where guests search for clues that lead them from one venue to another. The winner snags $500. “We spend most of our lives inside offices and less time smelling the roses,” says York. “I hope this party gives people a more laid-back perspective of downtown.”
