Dave Koz

Tuesday, December 11, at the Palace Theatre.

Take Kenny G's soulful cheese, top it with a little of David Sanborn's baloney, and put it on the whitest bread possible, and you have any one of Dave Koz's lightly bouncing sax solos. Koz remains a smooth-jazz MVP, frequently topping the charts and netting listeners in the lucrative adult-contemporary circle. Earlier this year, he released At the Movies — a cream-puff homage to his favorite film scores (like The Wizard of Oz and Breakfast at Tiffany's), featuring, among others, India.Arie and Barry Manilow. Fans kept the album on top of the jazz chart for most of the summer.

Koz is now on the road promoting a recently released holiday CD, Memories of a Winter's Night. The show marks the 10th anniversary of Koz and friends' annual A Smooth Jazz Christmas Tour. In addition to silky yuletide grooves, Koz will perform some of his other hits. He'll also add sax to sets by South African six-string swami Jonathan Butler and Phoenix-Suns-center-turned-jazz-bassist Wayman Tisdale. Expect big ensemble arrangements, blockbuster holiday performances, duets featuring American Idol finalist Kimberley Locke (who's also part of the tour), and a sea of jazz fans celebrating the smooth sounds of the season.
