Hillbilly City Limits: Pop. 24

A hodgepodge of offbeat Texans populates Kent State University's Trumbull Theatre for this weekend's run of A Tuna Christmas. The comedy takes place in Tuna, the Lone Star State's third-smallest town, where residents compete in the annual Christmas lawn-display contest. Eight actors play all 24 roles, including an owner of a used-weapons store and a UFOlogist. And while the script could lampoon every redneck in the South, its real target is anyone who takes himself seriously. "The play politely makes fun of the characters, and it allows them to make fun of just about everyone else," says director Brian (Daniel?) Nadon. "It has an irreverence to it, but it is gentle." Act I starts at 8 p.m. today and tomorrow, and 3 p.m. Sunday at Kent-Trumbull Theatre, 4314 Mahoning Avenue Northwest in Warren. Tickets are $6 to $8.
