Davey Blue

In music circles throughout Buffalo, critics have described Davey O.'s country-folk originals and road-weary voice as "raw" and "rootsy." He even scored a personal coup in 2004, when magazine voters gave him a people's choice award as the "best original acoustic solo performer" in western New York. Davey is peddling his latest CD, thirtyninedollarview — about his tales of life on the road — with a Great Lakes tour that brings him to Cleveland tonight. When he's home, he pulls a full-time sales gig in a music store north of town, where he helps kids pick out their first instruments and music vets upgrade their stashes of horns, guitars, and keyboards. And here's his best sales pitch: "There's no snooty, condescending, holier-than-thou attitudes, which I unfortunately had to deal with at my most recent previous employer," says Davey. "We are simply the best at getting the gear you want in your arsenal." Davey O. performs at 10 tonight at the Barking Spider, 11310 Juniper Road. Admission is free.
